THE VIEVILLE BISCUIT - Lithographed sheet metal circa 1900 . Very good condition, with fine scratches, embossed illustration and lettering. 40 x 30 cm . The biscuit factory was founded in 1887 in Amiens (Somme) by Camille Eternel Viéville. Camille was born in Gercy in the Aisne department. He worked as a pastry cook in Saint Quentin. He did his military service in Amiens. There he met Marthe Marie Dubos (sister of Adrien Dubos, who had set up the Amiens grocery and food store). They married in 1887 and founded the biscuit factory the same year. Biscuit de Reims, a pure gluten biscuit for diabetics, Le délicieux de Viéville, perhaps the Champagne biscuit. He sold the biscuit factory to Jules Mérelle in 1921. Jules Mérelle's son Marcel continued the business. According to the Amiens Commercial Court Registry, the biscuit factory closed in 1984. The splendid art nouveau-style shop front can still be seen at 53 rue Gaulthier de Rumilly (sources: David Dobrenel and armarium-hautsdefrance.fr and amiens-wiki.fr).
