Lot no. 208
LE-BLOND (Elizabeth Alice France). True tales and mountain adventures for non-climbers young and old. London, Fisher Unwin, 1906. In-8°, publisher's illustrated boards. Third edition, illustrated with 33 plates. The author recounts the great epics of mountaineering: the conquest of the summits, famous accidents, the great guides, etc.
Mrs Elizabeth Alice France Le Blond (Greystones 1860 - Llandrindod Wells 1934) took up mountaineering for health reasons! She did classic climbs and became a specialist in the Bernina and winter ascents. She also climbed in Norway. Her maiden name was Hawkins-Whitshead and, having married three times, she was known successively as Mrs Burnaby (1879 - 1885), Mrs Main (1886 - 1892) and Mrs Le Blond (1900 - 1934). She founded the Ladies Alpine Club, of which she was the first president, in 1907.
Also included:

Graham Brown), and carried out several expeditions to the Himalayas: an attempt on Kangchenjunga, two attempts on Everest and, in 1931, the first ascent of Kamet (7756 m), which was for a time the highest summit climbed. Scattered brown spots.
