Lot no. 238
"HOW HAPPY I WAS TO SEE THE EMPEROR AGAIN...". MARIE-LOUISE (Empress). Letter signed "Louise" [probably to Pauline Bonaparte]. Saint-Cloud, 13 August 1813. 3/4 p. in-4 dictated to Napoleon I's secretary Agathon-Jean-François; two traces of label in lower margin. "Madame and dear sister-in-law, on my return from Mainz I received the letter you kindly wrote to me. I see that the use of the waters has brought some relief to your suffering; I hope very much for a second season. I would be happy if you could return to us soon. You would find my son very well and in a position to acknowledge your friendship for him. The happiness I felt at seeing the Emperor again was disturbed by the regret of being obliged to part with him almost immediately. I found him in perfect health and in the state you would have wished to see him again. My health is quite good. I renew to you, Madam and dear sister-in-law, the expression of my constant and inviolable friendship...".
