Lot no. 30
A TASTE FOR GOLD IN THE 1980S
Graphical and remarkably flexible, this 18k (750 thousandths) yellow and white gold bracelet is quite simply a testament to the great art of Italian knitwear in the 1980s. Signed Synthesis (2868 AL). Voluminous shapes reminiscent of gold gemstones are illuminated by ten round brilliant diamonds set in triangles on the upper part weighing approx. 1 ct.
Wrist size: 19 cm.
Width: approx. 2 cm.
Gross weight: 70.7 g.
This bracelet, with its close-fitting links that are not too tight for great fluidity, emits small, clear sounds from the different parts that meet. This piece of jewellery is so typical of 1980s fashion, where two schools of thought clashed: the BCBGs (Bon Chic Bon Genre) with ear-clearing perms and big gold ear clips, chunky necklaces and loud bracelets that made a lot of noise. All in oversized yellow gold. At the opposite end of the spectrum was hair pulled back in a ponytail with earrings, bracelets and necklaces in fluorescent pink or yellow plastic, preferably flash, in fluorescent dancewear with leggings, in a swaying position chewing huge pieces of gum, just to look like the rebel Madonna. We're going for the more preppy side of things with this bracelet, which is becoming timeless because the beauty of its materials and shapes remains a great classic!
