The toy merchant, France, circa 1760-1770.
Folded fan, the silk sheet lined with paper, painted in gouache with a fine decoration of birds and fruit. In the side medallions, two children are playing, one with a windmill, the other with a bilboquet. In the centre, a merchant offers toys to a young mother and child. The labels are edged with gold sequins.
The reverse has the same outline as the labels on the front.
White mother-of-pearl frame, pierced, engraved and burgued, decorated with two paintings of shepherds and, in the centre, a gallant scene.
