The Charles François Delamarche trio Armillary sphere, celestial globe and terrestrial globe: the celestial globe signed 'A Paris Chez le Sieur Delamarche geogr. Rue du Foin St Jacq. Au College de Mr Gervais', the terrestrial globe signed 'Dressé par Delamarche, geogr. rue du Foin St Jacques, Paris', circa 1790. The three instruments in printed paper, boiled cardboard; the globes with twelve spindles each without caps showing classical constellations, the places of the earth, and the circles of the sphere; the armillary sphere visualising the Ptolemaic system (missing the hour ring). A cartouche above the Gemini informs us that the stars are placed 'according to the Observations of the most Famous Astronomers of this Time'. Two of the three instruments mounted on blackened wooden bases turned into balusters and fitted with horizons, each bearing a zodiacal calendar and indication of geographical directions. H. 40 cm, 41 cm and Diam. 21 cm A few minor accidents, a crack in the horizon of the celestial globe, the base of the terrestrial globe is missing. Expert : Anthony TURNER
