LEBERT (Hermann). Traité d'anatomie pathologique générale et spéciale, ou description et iconographie pathologique des altérations morbides tant liquides que solides observées dans le corps humain. Paris, Londres et New York, Baillière, 1857-1861. 4 volumes in-folio, red half-chagrin, spine ribbed and decorated (Period bindings). Only edition of the text and only printing of the 200 macro- and microscopy plates, all drawn from life by P. Lackerbauer, engraved on copper by various artists, most finely coloured. "Among the finest ever published", say Garrison-Morton 2297.1.
Lebert, a native of Wroclaw (then Breslau), had studied medicine in Berlin and then in Paris with Dupuytren, among others. He practised in Zurich and Bex. This work is the result of his extensive research in microscopy, which made it possible to extend pathological anatomy to the cellular level.
A very fresh copy with no foxing; a few tears in the binding.
