LECHEVALIER (Jean-Baptiste). Voyage de la Troade, fait dans les années 1785 et 1786. Paris, Dentu, 1802. 3 volumes in-8 and an atlas in-folio, long-grained red half-maroquin with green vellum corners, smooth spine decorated, jonquille edges (Period binding). Third revised and enlarged edition, the most complete of this famous description of the Troad, in the north-west of the Anatolian peninsula, where the ancient city of Troy was located.
It is accompanied by an atlas of 37 engravings on 29 plates, including 4 maps and 4 plans, engraved by Tardieu, Adam, Berlin, Collin, etc.
Lechevalier (1752-1836), a learned traveller and secretary to Choiseul-Gouffier, the author of the Voyage pittoresque de la Grèce, was also the first curator of the Sainte-Geneviève library.
