Lechevalier was a member of the team of scholars formed by Choiseul-Gouffier to prepare the sequel to the Voyage pittoresque de la Grèce (see no. 21) and was passionately involved in excavations and research on the Troad and the ancient city of Troy, the location of which he succeeded in establishing.
