First edition and first print run of Louis Legrand's illustration, comprising 15 large etchings in bistre, including the cover, the frontispiece and 13 hors-texte under serpents, and 200 wood-engraved drawings in the text. Edition of 165 copies on laid paper. A superb copy in a lined binding by Marius Michel, with a rich floral mosaic decoration on the boards and lining.
