First edition of this catalogue raisonné of the collections of the first Musée des Monuments Français, illustrated with 273 line-engraved plates by Guyot after Percier and Lenoir. The sixth volume deals specifically with painting on glass and stained glass.
The medievalist Alexandre Lenoir (1761-1839) set out to save monuments, tombs and sculptures from revolutionary vandalism. He was the founder of the first Musée des Monuments Français, which he directed from its creation in 1795 until it was closed by Louis XVIII in 1816. The current Musée des Monuments Français was created in 1879 by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.
