Lot no. 1806
Leo Putz. (1869 Merano - 1940 ibid.) Lake Promenade A late Impressionist impression of Lake Starnberg, flooded with light and executed in a virtuoso, fast, broad style, with a view through the trees of the promenade to a village on the shore, whose silhouette is effectively reflected in the shimmering surface of the water. A late, charming work by Putzs, who began his artistic career at the Munich Academy in 1889 and continued at the Académie Julian in Paris, presumably created shortly before his return to his home town of Merano. Based in Munich from 1897, he joined the Secession in the same year. Moved by the new tendencies, he became a co-founder of the progressive Munich artists' association "Die Scholle" in 1899. With his holistic style of representation based on colour and rhythm, the Impressionist was one of the artists who renewed German art around 1900. Gouache/paper. Signed and dated (lower right). (19)36. mat cut-out 33.2 cm x 45.3 cm. Frame. Gouache on paper. Signed and dated (19)36.
