Lot no. 1882
Leo Putz (1869 Merano - 1940 ibid.)
Summer reading in the garden
A snapshot sketched in a skilfully fleeting, broad style, depicting a woman in a sun hat and white dress reading in a garden. Late Impressionist, light-flooded work by Putz, whose artistic career began in 1889 at the Munich Academy and continued at the Académie Julian in Paris. Based in Munich from 1897, he joined the Secession in the same year. Moved by the new tendencies, he became a co-founder of the progressive Munich artists' association "Die Scholle" in 1899. With his holistic style of representation based on colour and rhythm, the Impressionist is one of the artists who renewed German art around 1900. Oil/cardboard. L. and signed; 26 cm x 20 cm. Frame.
Oil on cardboard. Signed.
