Léon DEVOS (1897-1974) "Le petit château", Oil on canvas, titled on the back, signed lower left, 38.5 x 46 cm. Note: Léon Devos grew up in Haine-Saint-Pierre, attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Mons, then the Brussels Academy with Jean Delville and Constant Montald, before working in Paris with Léon Navez. In 1926, he joined the Le Bon Vouloir circle in Mons, where he was guest of honour in 1961, and co-founded the Nervia group alongside Anto Carte, Louis Buisseret, Frans Depooter, Léon Navez, Pierre Paulus, Rodolphe Strebelle, Taf Wallet and Jean Winance. He began teaching at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 1939, becoming director in 1948 and a member of the Académie royale de Belgique in 1957. His works can be found in museums in Antwerp, Brussels, Charleroi, Ghent, La Louvière, Liège and Tournai. Retrospective exhibitions in Namur (1967), at Brussels City Hall and at La Maison de la Louve. Property (de Brouwer family) located in Grimbergen subject of painting.
