Lot no. 612
Leonard Tsuguharu FOUJITA (1886-1968) Portrait of a Young Woman Graphite and stump, signed in ideograms and Latin alphabet and dated 1926. With a countersigned note on the mount "to my friend Léon Rosenthal / my very best regards". H. 25 cm - W. 20 cm HVS Léon Georges Rosenthal (1870-1932) was a teacher, art critic, activist and art historian. In 1924, following in the footsteps of Henri Focillon (1881-1943), he took up the chair of History of Modern Art at the University of Lyon and ran the city's Musée des Beaux-Arts until 1933. In particular, he was behind the creation of the museum's Decorative Arts section. It was also thanks to Rosenthal that, in 1927, the Musée des Baux-Arts de Lyon was able to acquire "L'Autoportrait au chat" by Foujita, also dated 1926 (Inv. N° 1997-52).
