LEONHARD BECK (circa 1480 Augsburg 1542) Saint Firminus of Amiens. Circa/after 1510. Sheet 37 of the series: Die Heiligen aus der Sipp-, Mag- und Schwägerschaft des Kaisers Maximilian I. Woodcut on laid paper with watermark: crown with cross (see Haewood, 1167–1169, Nuremberg/Mainz/Augsburg, circa 1507/1510). 23.4 x 21.1 cm. Provenance: - Galerie Michel, Paris (acquired in 1974). - Schack Collection, Hamburg. - Private collection, Germany. Hollstein (Leonhard Beck) 12; The New Hollstein German (Leonhard Beck, part I, p. 12, no. 37). - Outstanding, deep black, clear and even early impression with the full framing line. The paper is slightly cockled and with scattered tiny foxing. With a smoothed horizontal central fold, only visible from the back. On the reverse attached by the upper corners to a mat with mounting strips. On the reverse partially minimally browned and with light finger traces and traces of wear. Overall in very good condition.
