Leopold I of Belgium (1790-1865) King of the Belgians from 1831 to 1865 after Belgium's independence in 1830. Founder of the Royal House to which all Belgian kings belonged. A beautiful autograph letter signed, Leopold, two pages, Ramsgate, England, 18 September 1823, addressed to Monsieur Favon, Conseiller de Légation chargé des affaires de Son Altesse Sérénissime Monseigneur le Duc régnant de Saxe Cobourg, in French. Leopold kindly asks his correspondent to welcome and advise the person he is recommending, and states in part: "... I particularly recommend him to you, asking you to assist him with your advice and to kindly give him all the clarifications he may ask of you concerning affairs with Mad. Alexand. Your experience and perfect knowledge of the matter will be of great use to him...' Accompanied by the original envelope bearing on the reverse a stamp in red ink, dated 1823, and a red wax seal in fine condition with a beautiful coat of arms.
