Lewis CARROLL (1832-1898). Eight or Nine Wise Words about Letter-Writing; - The Wonderland Postage Stamp Case (Emberlin and Son, Oxford, 1890) booklet in-16 (10.5 x 8 cm) of 39 p.; accompanied by an illustrated postage stamp case, with its illustrated folder; all with publisher's printed envelope (same format). The booklet contains an essay by Lewis Carroll on useful tips for composing, writing, sending and recording letters. At the end, 4 pages of a catalogue of Carroll's works. The stamp case and folder are illustrated in colour on both sides, based on drawings by John Tenniel: Alice suckling the pig (case) and Alice suckling the Duchess's baby (folder); on the back, the Cheshire Cat (disappearing, except for his smile, on the case). The case has 12 compartments for storing stamps, from ½ d. to 1 s. The back of the case reads: "Invented by Lewis Carroll mdccclxxxix". On the reverse of the folder, the price is marked: "(Post Free, 13d) Price One Shilling". All in the publisher's original printed envelope. S.H.
