Liao Xinxue was a Chinese sculptor and painter born in Yunnan. Initially apprenticed to a Kunming museum in 1919, he studied painting with a master and opened his own studio. He also studied painting at Nanjing Central University before moving to France. He studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1933 to 1942 (in the studios of various artists), and opened his own sculpture studio in 1937 on rue Daguerre. He took part in a number of exhibitions (painting and sculpture), winning the gold medal at the Salon de Printemps in 1946. He left for China in 1948, where he continued his career, mainly as an art teacher.
