Polychrome jasper, also known as desert jasper, is a variety recently discovered in Madagascar. In 2006, while searching for more deposits of ocean jasper, a variety that is also only found on Madagascar, the first deposit of polychrome was accidentally discovered in the Norcross-Madagascar desert. The polychrome jasper presented here is of exceptionally large size and resembles a flame in shape. It shimmers in beautiful shades of rose, taupe and caramel. This clearly distinguishable pattern of rich coloured specks is very typical of this variety of jasper.
