Lot no. 108
LINCK (Jean-Antoine). The Grandes Jorasses seen from the upper Val Ferret. Geneva, circa 1800. Graphite, charcoal and white chalk drawing on beige paper, signed in ink lower left, indications of location on verso in the artist's hand, sheet size, 38.5 x 28.5 cm. Very fine original drawing depicting the Grands Jorasses (east side), with the Pré de Bar glacier in the lower right foreground and the Col de la Seigne in the left background. This is a very well-crafted view; there is another, less finished version on blue paper in the Payot collection of the Haute-Savoie department. Peyrot reproduces an identical unsigned drawing, which he wrongly gives as a view of the Brenva glacier from Mont Chétif. Mont-Blanc, conquête de l'Imaginaire, p. 354. Petrot I - 83/5.
