Lot no. 110
LINCK (Jean-Antoine). View of Montblanc, from the Brenva glacier near Courmayeur. Geneva, circa 1800. Graphite, chalk and white chalk drawing, signed in ink lower right, titled on the back, in sheet form on beige paper, 55 x 41.5 cm. A superb original drawing, in a very large format, depicting the Italian side of Mont Blanc. The cascade of seracs from the Brenva glacier is magnificently rendered using white chalk highlights. The whole of the Peuterey ridge is visible. The view is drawn from the northern slopes of Mont Chétif, on the access path to the sanctuary of Notre-Dame de Guérison. A similar drawing is held in the Payot collection. Peyrot reproduces a similar drawing.
Mont-Blanc conquête de l'imaginaire, p. 345. Peyrot I - 83/4.
