US paratrooper liner in high pressure composite material with illegible manufacture. The canvas cap is complete and the metal parts are oxidised. The leather chinstrap is missing while the neck strap is present. The rear drawstring is also present. The two snaps typical of parachute models are still present. The OD heavy canvas straps are complete with metal buckles. The OD canvas parachutist chinstrap has five adjustment eyelets. The khaki exterior paint is seventy percent preserved. A perforation is visible on the upper part of the liner. An Elbert Harness inscription is present on the cap. According to our research this paratrooper belonged to the 17th Airborne, 17th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. Some wear and patina to be noted. condition II+. Early January 1945, the division was rushed to the Ardennes region (south of Bastogne) to counter the German offensive. It relieved the 11th Armoured Division and supported the forces of General Patton's 3rd Army. Flamierge / Dead Man's Ridge, one of the bloodiest confrontations of the 17th. The wooded, frozen terrain and exposure to German artillery fire caused heavy casualties. According to the seller, this liner is from Compogne. The village of Compogne, located in the province of Luxembourg in Belgium, was affected by the events of the Battle of the Bulge between December 1944 and January 1945. Although small, its position on the roads leading to Bastogne made it a crucial crossing point for the Allied forces trying to break the encirclement of the town. Based on our research, this paratrooper belonged to the 17th Airborne Division, 17th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. Note some wear and a period patina on the piece. Condition rated as II+.
