An extremely rare second edition in Dutch, published in the same year as the original Russian edition of Berlin, and a typographical work "constructed" by El Lissitsky (1890-1941). A painter, architect and typographer, he trained in Moscow and Vitebsk, in Kiev in Alexandra Exter's studio and, at the invitation of Chagall and Ermolaeva, taught architecture and typography in Vitebsk. He joined Malevich's Ounovis at the Vitebsk school, where he ran the polygraphic workshop. It was at this Vitebsk art institute that he created this mythical children's book in 1920. It was published in Berlin around April 1922 by Scythians Press. Cover, title page in red and black, page where the artist indicates in typographical composition: "Don't read, take paper, squares, colours, fold, build" and six paintings in red, black and shades of grey where two squares and other geometric elements form a suprematist world. The Dutch edition edited by Théo van Doesburg (1883-1931) was published in two forms in October/November 1922, a regular edition forming No. 10/11, year 5, of the journal De Stijl and 50 deluxe oblong copies, numbered by the printer and signed by Lissitzky, where the texts are no longer at the foot of the paintings but in the outer margin. One of the 50 deluxe copies, unnumbered and signed by the artist in black ink on the justification page. In perfect condition.
