Biography :
Madame de MONTHOLON, born Caroline-Jane O'Hara, British nurse, titled Countess of Lee. Second wife of Charles-Tristan de Montholon, Comte de Montholon, Comte de Lee (1783-1853).
Historical background:
Fort de Ham: a fortified castle located in the Somme department, the fortress was transformed into a state prison in the 18th and 19th centuries. During the "Thermidorian" repression, a dozen Montagnards, including Chasles, were imprisoned here (1795). It was home to some famous prisoners, including Prince Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (the future Napoléon III), who spent six years there (1840-1846), eventually escaping on 25 May disguised as a bricklayer under the identity of Badinguet.
