SPOON WITH FRIVOLOUS PUTTO ON DOLPHIN
South German, Ulm, c. 1700 Master's mark Bartholome Müller, master in Ulm from 1698.
Fully carved ivory handle depicting a putto standing on a volute-shaped dolphin base. Mascaron on the back of the volute. Tongue-shaped bowl base with vermeil spoon. Finely engraved decoration in the form of an acanthus leaf on the underside. Two hallmarks, one monogrammed BM.
L 15.6 cm.
Ivory slightly rubbed. Vermeil oxidised and with signs of wear.
A comparable spoon in the Solingen Blade Museum with the identical master's mark.
