Long border in Alençon lace, needlepoint, France, circa 1860-80.
In Alençon stitch, probably produced by the Alençon firm Huignard-Besnard, with a decoration typical of the period, of roses with hearts adorned with an eight-pointed star of St Esprit and rosehips grouped within foliage and leaflets, Supported by a border of scalloped cartouches in various fashions and punctuated by two roses in full bloom with hearts adorned with small fashions, ivory-coloured cotton, horsehair holding the border picots and certain motifs, wax seal at one end.
