Nancy, an II [1793]-1803. 10 pieces in one volume in-8, half tan basane with vellum corners, smooth spine decorated, spotted edges (Binding of the period). Interesting factitious collection compiled at the time by J.-F. Bonfils le jeune, a doctor from Nancy, with ex-libris and table of contents handwritten on the first endpapers. The volume is titled on the spine: Recueil lorrain. It contains the following items:
1. LAMOUREUX (Justin). Mémoire pour servir à l'histoire littéraire du département de la Meurthe. Nancy, Vigneulle & Vincenot, 1803. [2], 124 pp.
2. BERR (Michel). Appel à la justice des nations et des rois, ou Adresse d'un citoyen français au Congrès qui devait avoir lieu à Lunéville, au nom de tous les habitans de l'Europe qui professent la religion juive. Strasbourg, Levrault, 1801. 72 pp. Unique edition of this very rare booklet on the emancipation of the Jews. Michel Berr (1781-1843), the first French lawyer of the Jewish faith, member of the Nancy bar and of several learned societies, was one of the great defenders of Jewish emancipation, following in the footsteps of his father Berr-Isaac Berr de Turique, deputy of the Jews of Lorraine to the National Assembly, but also of another famous Lorraine native, Abbé Grégoire, to whom this Appeal is dedicated. Nancy, Veuve Bachot, an II [1794]. 60 pp. Very rare revolutionary manual of elementary instruction printed by decision of the Meurthe administration. The Republican hymns and songs collected in the last pages begin with the Marseillaise (Hymne des Marseillois, pp. 51-52).
5. SIMON (Édouard-Thomas). Mathurin ou le sage à la campagne. Nancy, Delahaye-Haener, [1808]. 7 pp. First edition of this pastoral tale in verse read at the Académie de Nancy on 1 September 1808. It was reprinted in Besançon in 1810 in Le Poète et le prétendu savant.
