Lyon, Guillaume Balsarin, 1503. Gothic two-column folio of 138 pages (out of 153), half-fauwn basane, spine decorated with fleurons (modern binding). This is the first edition of Jean Molinet's prose setting of the Roman de la rose, in which he followed each chapter with moralities of his own invention.
The work is illustrated with more than one hundred naive and expressive woodcuts in the text, reproducing those in the second edition of the novel, published in Lyon in 1485.
Copy incomplete of 14 leaves, including the title (ff. i-v, viii-x, xv, lxix, lxxii, cli-cliii); a woodcut on f. lxxxxiv with missing text on verso; ff. xl-xli stained; light rings in margins.
