Lot no. 363
Set of three spindles
Made of wood and wooden splints. All three feature a straight, solid wooden shaft, topped by a more or less diamond-shaped openwork cage, and finished with either a small, relatively stylised sculpture of a woman in the round, or a kind of intricately carved spinning top. All three are accompanied by a spindle whorl; two of these are smooth on top and carved on the underside, whilst the third is decorated with a star and chevrons on both the top and underside. A model designed to function as a rattle.
