Lothar Fischer (1933 Germersheim - 2004 Baiersbrunn) Female figure in a circle Figure made of fireclayed ceramic, circular ring and suspension made of steel wire, base made of brown-stained softwood. Fischer was one of the most important contemporary sculptors after 1945, primarily depicting abstract human figures as well as riders and horses, preferably in ceramic. His sculptural oeuvre also includes works in bronze, iron and other materials. He studied sculpture at the Munich Academy under Heinrich Kirchner from 1953 to 1958 and was in contact with Toni Stadler. Together with fellow students and painters Heimrad Prem, Helmut Sturm and Hans Peter Zimmer, he founded the artist group "SPUR" in 1957. In 1959 Fischer received the prestigious Villa Massimo scholarship in Rome, and in 1964 he took part in "documenta III" in Kassel. From 1975-1997, Fischer taught as a professor at the University of the Arts. In 2004, the Museum Lothar Fischer in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz opened in his honour. Total height 71 cm.
