Lot no. 132
LOTI Pierre and Samuel VIAUD. Supreme visions of the Orient. Fragment of a diary. Paris, Calmann-Lévy, 1921; in-12, [6]-316 pp, contemporary binding in glossy brown half-maroquin, ribbed spine, gilt head, orange cover. First edition of Pierre Loti's last and most poignant travelogue, a tribute to the Orient and Turkey. "I'm watching the end of summer, the end of the Orient, the end of my life; it's the end of everything". His son Samuel Viaud helped him put the book in order after the hemiplegia that struck him in 1920. One of 175 numbered copies on Hollande paper. A few personal notes (by Samuel Viaud?) in graphite in the margins provide further details. A very fine copy, perfectly established with its large witnesses preserved.
