Lot no. 1817
Lotte Lasterstein (1898 Prussian-Holland - 1993 Kalmar/Sweden) Forest Impression Lasterstein's depiction of the landscape in broad, dynamic strokes, combined with stylistic elements of Im- and Expressionism, probably created in the 1960s/1970s. The motif appears to have been borrowed from the artist's immediate surroundings, when she bought a summer house on Öland in 1952 and moved from Stockholm to the Kalmar countryside in 1954. Lotte Laserstein received her training in Berlin in the 1920s, where her work - especially her portraits in the New Objectivity style - was quickly recognised. She emigrated to Sweden in 1937 to escape the dangers she faced from the National Socialist regime due to her Jewish origins. From 1987, her oeuvre was rediscovered in retrospectives in London, Sweden and Berlin. The Nationalgalerie in Berlin and the Städel Museum in Frankfurt acquired early major works. Major retrospectives also took place in 2018/19. Pastel/brownish paper. Signed in pencil lower right; 29.8 cm x 21 cm. Frame. Pastel on brownish paper. Signed.
