Our work should be compared with a plaster sculpture used as a pilaster for the library of Charles Paix-Séailles (1879 - 1921). This plaster was probably exhibited at the XIth exhibition of the Société Nouvelle des Peintres et Sculpteurs under the presidency of Auguste Rodin, Paris, Galerie Georges-Petit, from 15 to 30 March 1910, probably cat. no. 39: "Pilastre : Les passions - Fragments décoratifs pour une bibliothèque (pour être exécuté en bze) (app. à M. C. P.-S.)".
The present column, with its tortuous human forms, is deeply linked to Rodin and recalls in particular the tumult of the figures adorning La Porte de l'Enfer, conceived in the 1880s, when Dejean was working in Rodin's studio.
