Sieffert 7.48 x 4.53 in. 19.0 x 11.5 cm Provenance: Gérard Lévy Collection ; Then by descent A pupil of the enameller Claudius Popelin, Louis Eugène Sieffert exhibited at the Salon from 1861, where he earned a solid reputation as a porcelain painter alongside his wife Annette-Eugénie Perrot. He also produced miniatures, enamels and earthenware, and his works show great finesse of execution, as in our delicate little composition painted on ivory, depicting in confidence the seductive nude of a bacchante, her back languidly leaning in the shade of a garden against the sheathed, impassive bust of Dyonysos.
