Comment: Pierre-Martin-Victor-Richard de Laprade, born in Montbrison in the Loire in 1812 and died in Lyon in 1883, was a religious and royalist poet. From 1847 to 1861, he held the chair of French literature at the Faculty of Letters in Lyon. At the same time, in 1858, he succeeded Alfred de Musset at the Académie Française. His satirical opposition political poems led to his election as a member of parliament in 1871.
