Portrait of a young lady in a white satin dress and orange shawl tuning her harp, watercolour and gum arabic on ivory, signed, by L.-M. H. 6; W. 4 ½ inches'); Probably Salon of 1811, Brussels, no. 13 (as 'A young lady tuning her harp') ; Autissier et le portrait miniature romantique en Belgique, Brussels, Kredietbank Gallery, 1998, no. 17 Bibliography: Probably Lucien Lemaire, Autissier miniaturiste, Lille, 1913 (2nd edition), pp. 53, 136 and 137. (Restored crack across the right and small lack of material at top left) The reverse of the miniature is inscribed, probably in the artist's hand: "This miniature / belongs to Mr autissier / painter domiciled in Brussels / rue de Schaerbeeck / N°. 982 / opposite Pachéco". This address is mentioned for the first time in the booklet of the Brussels Salon of 1811. The size indicated in inches in the booklet of the 1810 Salon corresponds approximately to that of the present portrait, as does the subject of the young woman holding in her right hand a key for tuning her harp; it is therefore very likely that this is the miniature exhibited in Ghent in 1810 and at the first Brussels Salon in 1811. Related works: Other version, signed, without drapery background, anonymous sale; Geneva, Christie's, 12 November 1975, no. 103, then anonymous sale; London, Christie's, 27 November 2012, no. 346 (sold for £2,800).
