Commentary:
Purchased by his mother Hortense during her exile, the future emperor Napoleon III, who was studying in Augsburg, came to Arenenberg during his adolescence.
In 1837, he returned to Arenenberg, where Hortense died on 5 October of that year. In 1843, he decided to sell Arenenberg to finance his political activities. Under the Second Empire, in 1855, his wife, Empress Eugenie, bought the estate.
