Lot no. 574
H. 13.5 x 21.4 cm This double-sided sheet comes from one of Soutter's notebooks, which were dismantled on his death, and in which he developed different themes and graphic styles in the form of a series. This double-sided drawing shows the transition from one graphic style to another. One side depicts a city with a square, domes and staircases inspired by both Venetian and Byzantine styles, with the soft harmony of scrolls. This style contrasts with the interpretation on the other side, of a lively and almost brutal arrival of a mortal woman in Paradise, according to the title given by Soutter.
