Lot no. 575
Louis SOUTTER (1871-1942), "Sieste (Les Sans Dieux se taisent)", Indian ink and pen on brown paper, unsigned. Drawing from the Mannerist period H. 26 x 35.4 cm From the 1930s onwards, Soutter stopped drawing in his notebooks and sketchbooks, and developed his work on larger-format paper, notably donated by his first cousin, the architect Le Corbusier. This change led to stylistic evolutions, as well as a narrowing down of the subjects he tackled. This drawing, from the so-called "Mannerist" period (1930-1937), is particularly exceptional, as it includes on its front and back the graphic styles and subjects that partly characterise this period.
