Seated in a luminous landscape criss-crossed by cool shadows and vibrant reflections, the young woman seems absorbed in a timeless inner contemplation. The sun disk forming a halo behind her head gives the figure an almost sacred presence, while the delicate tones - pale yellows, blue-greens and pearly pinks - create an atmosphere of great poetic subtlety. The meticulous treatment of light, the calm verticality of the composition and the suspended softness of the motif bring the work closer to the great European symbolist movements of the late nineteenth century. At the crossroads of Symbolism, Post-Impressionism and a sensibility close to the Pre-Raphaelites, Hawkins develops here a deeply personal language of silence, light and interiority.
