Lot no. 118
LOUISE ÉLISABETH VIGÉE LE BRUN (Paris 1755 - 1842) Portrait of a young man wearing a brown jacket with a high collar and wide lapels, a choker and a white muslin lavaliere Original oval oil on canvas 65 x 53.5 cm (Restoration) We are grateful to Joseph Baillio for confirming the attribution on the basis of high-definition digital photographs in February 2025. He dates our painting to around 1784-1786 and compares it to two portraits that Vigée Le Brun painted of two members of the de Ségur family, the soldier and diplomat Count Louis Philippe de Ségur,(1753-1830) and his half-brother, Viscount Joseph Alexandre de Ségur (1756-1805). The portrait will be included in the catalogue raisonné of paintings, pastels and drawings by Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun currently being prepared by Joseph Baillio. A certificate from the latter will be given to the buyer.
