Paris, Charpentier, 1906; in-12 old red morocco, six gilt fillets framing the covers, ribbed spine decorated with multiple gilt fillets, large inner frame in the same morocco bordered with 5 gilt fillets, mustard lining and endpapers, double endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover (E. & A. Maylander). First edition. Last work published by the author, bringing together tales and articles on love, sensuality, time, nature, etc. ☞ One of 10 copies on Whatman (No. 1), first paper before 15 Japon and 50 Hollande. It is enriched with 3 pieces: A very well written friendly letter of congratulations signed CB (Charles Bargone, Claude Farrère's real name) : He has his elbow resting on Archipel, which consoles him for his long days. (February 1906) A letter from Pierre Louÿs to Moncharville, of the French legation in Siam, asking him to send erotic objects discreetly (7 August 1909) A long poem of 10 quatrains written near Mount Etna in February 1901: "Ainsi vers la mer de Sapho..." (Thus towards the sea of Sapho). It is about mermaids enticing passing sailors. Ex-libris Charles Hayoit.
