Maylander). Very important posthumous first edition, as the novel reveals the relationship between Pierre Louÿs and Marie de Régnier. The novel, unfinished, was finished by Claude Farrère, the author's closest friend. ☞ One of 12 first copies on Japon, the only large paper. It is enriched with 6 autograph pieces: A friendly and spirited letter, signed CB (Charles Bargone, from his pen name Claude Farrère). He has not smoked since the day before (December 1905). Louÿs would like us to wait for his death, and would prefer not to be buried in pieces... Reply from Lucien Descaves to Farrère on the Journal letterhead, December 1922; Farrère passed on to him the letter from P. Louÿs asking to delay publication, but he claimed not to have the power to decide. Farrère was annoyed. He wrote on the letter Without comment.
