Lot no. 548
Lucien LEVY-DHURMER (1865 - 1953) et Clément MASSIER (1857 - 1933) - Large pair of green and pink iridescent ceramic vases decorated with leaves and branches enhanced with gold. Two openwork handles snake around the vase. Internal pewter receptacle. Signed under the base "L.Levy Clément MASSIER Golf - Juan", circa 1900. H. 39 x 24 cm Please note: The collaboration between Lévy-Dhurmer and Massier marked a turning point in French ceramics. Their joint work combined technical innovation and symbolist aesthetics. Their pieces are inspired by Hispano-Moorish and Persian ceramics, with gold, silver, copper or polychrome iridescence. This is achieved by low-temperature firing, which transforms the metallic oxides into a fine veil of metal on the surface of the piece, giving rise to unique works. This synergy between the ceramist and the painter illustrates the spirit of Art Nouveau, where the boundaries between the decorative arts and the fine arts became blurred.
