Luděk Marold was a Prague painter, illustrator and poster artist, close to the greatest names in Czech art at the end of the 19th century, particularly Alphonse Mucha, whose features we seem to recognise in this Man at the Window. Following in the footsteps of his illustrious compatriot, Marold makes brilliant use of a wide range of graphic techniques to capture the image of the artist discreetly observing his contemporaries and drawing inspiration from them.
