Lot no. 1848
Ludwig Benno Fey (Fay) and Carl (Karl) Emil Mücke (1859 Gerresheim - 1906 Düsseldorf and 1847 Düsseldorf - 1923 ibid.) Young Dutch couple on a winter sleigh ride in front of a village Atmospheric joint work by the two Düsseldorf painters, who worked together on various occasions. Fey initially studied in Düsseldorf with his father Joseph, later as a private pupil of Emil Hünten. Hünten made animals and horses one of his specialities, so the lively depiction in this painting is probably his work. Carl Emil Mücke, who also came from a family of artists, was the son of the painter Heinrich Mücke and studied at the academy from 1863 to 1870, where his father was a professor from 1848 to 1867. He was then a private pupil of the genre painter Wilhelm Sohn for a time. From the 1870s until around 1890 he often travelled to the Netherlands, from 1877 to 1888 to Volendam in northern Holland, where he found the genre motifs that were characteristic of his painting. Oil on canvas; signed a. dated by both artists on the lower right. 1888. 60 cm x 80 cm. Original stippled frame. Oil on canvas. Signed by both artists and dated 1888. Original frame.
