Luigi Bigazzi, an excellent painter active in the Tuscan area, is known for his production of portraits and works of a celebratory character, destined for the most demanding collectors. This series of eight portraits of famous painters is executed with great skill and attention to detail, based on the models preserved in the Vasari Corridor of the Uffizi, where the original portraits and self-portraits of these masters were kept. The series is part of that 19th century artistic production of historical and celebratory taste, inspired by the glories of European and Italian painting, which found favour with Grand Tour travellers, eager to possess images of the great masters of the artistic tradition.
