Provenance: European collection. Luigi Loir was a French painter who became famous in particular for his depictions of everyday life in Paris. The gouache work offered here by Loir, who was one of the most sought-after boulevard painters in Paris at the end of the 19th century, shows us a street scene not far from Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, whose silhouette can be recognised in the background. Loir's attractive Paris scenes are not only extremely decorative, they are also a charming testimony to the Paris of the fin de siècle.
