Born in Naples, Luigi Lojacono studied with his father, who was also a painter, and then at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts. Influenced by the Posillipo school and naturalism, Lojacono excelled at depicting Mediterranean nature, rural scenes and seascapes, finely capturing the light and atmosphere of southern Italy. His work, appreciated during his lifetime, marks the transition between Romanticism and Realism in nineteenth-century Italian painting.
